Ride outs

Rides we've done, and what nobody else tells you.

Every ride out is one we've ridden and filmed ourselves, not what someone's told us. You get the full story, the video and the GPX to download, plus every place we stopped and the things most guides skip: where you can park, the slopes, the gravel, the loos, and whether we'd go back.

A coffee at Jodrell Bank

After a week off the bikes we needed a quick route, and we know this one well: lovely twisty roads and a coffee under the Lovell Telescope. Bikers ride straight past it, but the car park is free and flat, and you don't need a ticket.

Bwlch y Groes

We only went out for cake. By six o'clock we were at the top of Bwlch y Groes, the Pass of the Cross: narrow, steep, a bit scary for a new rider, hardly anyone about, and one of the most beautiful places I've ridden in Wales.

Sent to Stoke

Stoke-on-Trent isn't where anyone goes for a ride, which is exactly why we went. Oatcakes for breakfast, a Victorian lodge serving tea at the bottom of a wooded valley, Moorlands lanes too twisty to talk on, and two drivers who nearly had us. Stoke surprised us.

Rivington and the Belmont loop

My first ride in Lancashire. I knew nothing about Wigan and soon took it all back. A café in a barn Lord Leverhulme restored, the Belmont loop, Victorian reservoirs and the first route we ever planned ourselves.
